It’s the question we’re asked most often, and to be honest, there’s no wrong answer. Corsica is generous whatever the season — but depending on what you’re looking for, the right timing can make all the difference. From our campsite in Ghisonaccia, on the east coast, we share our take on the seasons, month by month, to help you choose the stay that suits you best.

Corsica’s east coast: a microclimate all its own

Before we talk dates, let’s talk about the land. Corsica’s east coast — what we call the Plaine Orientale — enjoys exceptional sunshine and gentler winds than Cap Corse or the far south. Ghisonaccia, our village, is sheltered to the west by the island’s first foothills, which block the gusts of tramontane, and opens to the east onto a sea that is often glassy from first thing in the morning.

The result: the season starts earlier and lasts longer than elsewhere. We open on 1 May and close on 8 October — and within that five-month window, each period has its own colours, its own light and its own rhythm.

📍 Did you know? Corsica’s east coast is one of the sunniest areas in the entire Mediterranean, with more than 2,800 hours of sunshine a year. Even in May, the days are long and bright, and the thermometer regularly climbs above 22°C.

Month by month: our honest take on the seasons

🌿 May

The island awakens. The pines still smell of fresh resin, the maquis bursts into flower, and the beaches are almost deserted. The sea is cool (18–20°C), but the brave are already swimming. Ideal for hikers, families who want space, and anyone who dreads crowds. Prices are at their most affordable of the season.

☀️ June

Our favourite month, and the favourite of many of our regulars. The island is beautiful, temperatures are ideal (25–28°C), the sea gently warms towards 22°C, and families with school-age children haven’t arrived yet. The campsite is in full swing without being overcrowded. The restaurant opens in mid-June — you can book a safari tent and have the pool to yourself at 6pm.

🔆 July

High season is in full swing. Families arrive in numbers, the pool is lively, the restaurant is running at full tilt 7 evenings a week with its weekly event evenings (paella, moules-frites, spit-roast veal…), and the evenings stretch late under the stars. The sea is at 25°C. This is the Corsica you imagine — vibrant, sun-drenched, festive. Book early, as accommodation goes fast.

🌊 August

The height of summer. Everything is at its peak: the heat (30–35°C), the visitor numbers, the atmosphere. The beach 700 metres from the campsite is magnificent, the sea turquoise. It’s intense, joyful, alive. Perfect if you love the buzz of family holidays. Less ideal if you’re looking for peace and quiet — for that, read on.

🍂 September

Corsica’s best-kept secret. The children are back at school, the beaches fall quiet again, and the sea stays at 24–25°C — often warmer than in July. The light turns golden, prices come down, and you rediscover a Corsica that is more authentic, slower, truer. The restaurant is still open until mid-September. Our September guests are often our most loyal.

🌰 October

We close on 8 October, but these first weeks of autumn are magical for nature lovers. Hikers, cyclists and couples without children adore this time of year. The sea is still warm enough to swim (22°C), the trails are clear, and the island reveals its softest colours. A deep calm settles in — and it’s beautiful.

Our recommendation, depending on who you are

You’re coming as a family with young children

July and August are made for you. The children make the most of the pool, the games, table tennis, table football, pétanque and volleyball. In the evening, the pizzeria becomes the heart of the campsite — a pizza in your hands, your feet in the grass: it’s an image that comes back every summer in our families’ memories. And once a week, the event evening brings the whole campsite together to share moules-frites or spit-roast veal. If you can shift your dates by a week or two after 15 August, the sea is still perfect and the atmosphere more relaxed.

💡 U Casone tip: Our pitches for tents and motorhomes are more than 100 m² — plenty of room to set up without being on top of your neighbours, even in the height of August. Space is one of the things we’re proudest of.

You’re a couple in search of peace and nature

June or September, without hesitation. The pine forest that shelters our campsite takes on a special light at the start and end of the season — golden in the morning, soothing in the evening. You can hire a kayak on the canal (€15 per half day for a single, €20 for a double) and paddle silently up between the reeds, listen to the cicadas without the hubbub of children, and head back to the campsite for an ice cream at the bar before sunset. It’s the simple luxury that only off-season Corsica can offer.

You’re travelling with your dog

Good news: your dog is welcome with us all season long — including in our accommodation (safari tents, chalets, Wooden lodges, mobile homes). No compulsory surcharge, no kennels. They sleep where you sleep. May, June and September are particularly pleasant for your four-legged companions: the temperatures are milder for morning walks along the coastal path, and the beaches are more accessible than in high summer.

You’re looking for the best value for money

May and September offer the best conditions: the island is stunning, accommodation is available, and prices reflect the quieter period. It’s also the ideal time to combine camping with excursions — natural sites such as the Fium’Orbu gorges are far more enjoyable away from the August crowds.

Activities by season

🛶 Kayaking on the canal

Available all season. In May–June and September, the canal water is cooler and the vegetation along its banks is lush. In July–August, early-morning outings (before 10am) offer absolute calm before the heat sets in. Price: €15 per half day for a single, €20 per half day for a double.

🏊 Swimming pools

Our two pools are open throughout the season. In May and June, the sun warms them from midday and they’re often quiet. In July–August, they become the vibrant heart of the campsite — splashes, laughter and the smell of sun cream in the air.

🎾 Sports and leisure

Pétanque, table tennis, volleyball and table football are available all season. In July–August, impromptu tournaments spring up between families. In June and September, it’s your chance to have the courts to yourself and spend the afternoon there at your leisure.

🍕 Restaurant & pizzeria

The restaurant is open from mid-June to mid-September, 7 days a week, with an event evening every week (moules-frites, paella, spit-roast veal…). The pizzeria and the bar are open throughout the season.

What the figures don’t tell you

Travel guides will give you temperatures and rainfall charts. What they won’t tell you is the scent of the maquis after a light shower in May. Nor the exact colour of the sea at Ghisonaccia on a September morning, when it takes on that deep blue-green you won’t see anywhere else. Nor the sound of the cicadas at 2pm in July, so loud you can’t hear anything else — which is exactly what you came for.

You don’t really choose Corsica by the month. You choose it by what you’re ready to feel. And here at U Casone — the big house in Corsican — we’re here to make that feeling as wonderful as possible, whatever date is on your calendar.

  • May–June: hiking, nature, couples, families with little ones, a controlled budget
  • July–August: beach, pool, entertainment, families with school-age children
  • September: warm sea, calm restored, golden light — our personal favourite
  • October (until the 8th): wild nature, hikers, couples, absolute serenity

Our accommodation, for every seasonal mood

Depending on the time of year and the atmosphere you’re after, our accommodation isn’t lived in in quite the same way. In May or September, the safari tent — with its ochre canvas on a wooden deck — is particularly enchanting: the morning light filters through the canvas, the birds sing, and you wake up feeling miles from anywhere while being just 700 metres from the sea. In high summer, our air-conditioned mobile homes and chalets offer a precious refuge during the hot afternoon hours, before you head back to the pool and the terrace once it’s cooler.

For those who travel light and love sleeping close to the ground in a tent, our large pitches of more than 100 m² accommodate every set-up — family tents, campervans, motorhomes — with enough space for everyone to feel at home.

💡 U Casone tip: Whatever time of year you choose, we recommend booking as early as possible — especially for our solid-built accommodation and safari tents. Ours is a human-scale campsite, and we like it that way. It’s not a 500-pitch complex: every booking counts, and the good shady pitches get snapped up quickly.

Now you know when to go. All that’s left is to choose your accommodation and book your own corner of paradise on Corsica’s east coast. We can’t wait to welcome you to U Casone — whichever season you choose.
