Going to Corsica as a family with children is one of those decisions you make once and then repeat every summer. The turquoise sea, the umbrella pine forests rustling in the breeze, the scent of the maquis first thing in the morning, the cicadas singing from June onwards — there’s something about this island that stays with you. Not just in the adults’ memories. In the children’s too, sometimes even more lastingly.
But choosing a family campsite in Corsica isn’t something to leave to chance. Between children who need shade, room to run around and activities close at hand, and parents who dream of a little peace and quiet, finding the right place makes all the difference. Here at U Casone — “the big house” in Corsican — we’ve been welcoming families on the east coast at Ghisonaccia for years. And we’ve learnt one thing: when a family feels at home, it comes back.
Corsica’s east coast: the choice of families in the know
People talk a lot about the west coast, about Porto and Calvi and their spectacular coves. And yes, it’s magnificent. But when you’re travelling as a family, with toddlers or primary-school children, the east coast has something incomparable: endless fine sandy beaches, shallow water that warms up quickly, and a relaxed atmosphere, without the packed crowds of some better-known spots.
Corsica’s eastern plain, with its vast pine forests, its lakes and lagoons, offers an exceptional natural setting for a family camping holiday. The hinterland is right on the doorstep — the Fiumorbu gorges, mountain villages just a few kilometres away, and local markets where children discover Corsican flavours: fresh brocciu, dried figs, and charcuterie fragrant with the maquis.
📍 Did you know? U Casone is just 700 metres from the sea. A shady path runs alongside the canal, ideal for walking or cycling to the beach with the children, without ever crossing a road.
A campsite designed for family life
What often separates a successful family holiday from a stressful one is space. Space for the children to play freely. Space for the parents to breathe. Our wooded grounds offer exactly that: large, shady pitches of more than 100 m², dense vegetation that naturally creates pockets of cool even in the height of August, and an old-fashioned campsite atmosphere where neighbours get to know each other and children meet up again year after year.
Accommodation for every kind of family
🏕️ Safari Tents
Our canvas tents on wooden decks, with their bamboo frames and bohemian touches, are particularly popular with families who want a sense of adventure without sacrificing comfort. In the evening, when the canvas turns golden in the last rays of sun, there’s a magic that’s hard to describe.
🏡 Chalets & Lodges
The chalets, Wooden lodges and Luxury lodges offer all the comfort of permanent accommodation, with a terrace, a fully equipped kitchen and several beds. Ideal for large families or those travelling with grandparents.
🚐 Mobile homes
Air-conditioned and well equipped, our mobile homes are perfect for families who put practicality first — arrive, drop the bags and enjoy.
⛺ Pitches
For families travelling with a tent, caravan or motorhome, our pitches of more than 100 m² are among the most generous in the area. The shade of the pines does the rest.
The activities that make children’s eyes light up
The best family holidays are the ones where the children don’t ask for a screen. Where the days are so full that they fall asleep before their heads even touch the pillow. At our campsite, that happens a lot.
Kayaking on the canal: adventure 15 minutes’ walk away
It’s the activity our young campers are still talking about when they go back to school. The canal alongside the campsite lets you paddle on calm, sheltered water, ideal for children from the age of 6 or 7. You can see that mix of concentration and pride in their eyes when they manage to steer their kayak on their own. In the evening, they tell everyone they “explored the forest on the water”.
💡 U Casone tip: Our kayaks are available to hire on site — €15 per half day for a single, €20 for a double. No need to book ahead: just turn up at the hire point in the morning.
On the campsite: a playground that never closes
Between dips in the pool, the children have plenty to keep them busy. Our playground is open all day. The volleyball court draws the groups of friends that form naturally as the days go by. Table tennis, pétanque, table football — so many moments when families mix and friendships are struck up between children who didn’t know each other 48 hours earlier.
🏊 2 Swimming pools
Our two outdoor pools are the heart of campsite life in summer. People gather there for morning sunbathing, afternoon dives and sometimes even at sunset, when the heat refuses to ease off.
⚽ Team games
Volleyball, table tennis, pétanque, table football — impromptu tournaments between families are among our campers’ best memories. No set programme, just good humour.
In the surrounding area: Corsica to explore together
- The Fiumorbu gorges — a walk that’s manageable with children, along a river with natural rock pools for a swim
- The Étang de Biguglia nature reserve — a birdwatching paradise that enchants animal-loving children
- The hilltop village of Serra-di-Fiumorbu — to feel the cool breeze and eat an ice cream while gazing over the whole plain from on high
- Ghisonaccia beach, 700 metres away on foot — long, quiet, with a sandy seabed that’s perfect for little ones
- Ghisonaccia market — to introduce the children to local flavours: Corsican cheeses, maquis honey, canistrelli

Family meals without the hassle
One question every parent asks before a camping holiday: “Will we have to cook every evening after a day at the beach?” With us, the answer is no — unless you want to.
Our restaurant is open from mid-June to mid-September, 7 evenings a week. Its cooking is inspired by local Corsican produce. Once a week, it’s time for the event evening: moules-frites, paella, spit-roast veal… These evenings are often the children’s favourite moment — the whole campsite around the same table, outdoors, under the stars. Our pizzeria rounds things off for quicker meals. The bar serves cold drinks and ice creams for those afternoon cravings.
For those who prefer to cook, our mini-market stocks the essentials — fresh bread in the morning, local produce, fruit and vegetables. There’s nothing nicer than preparing a simple dinner under the arbour of your terrace, with the cicadas in the background and the scent of the pines.
💡 U Casone tip: In the evening, children who have been busy all day sleep soundly. It’s often the moment parents choose to linger at the restaurant or the bar — a quiet grown-up moment, just a stone’s throw away.
When to go on a family camping holiday in Corsica
We’re open from 1 May to 8 October, and each period has its own character for families.
🌸 May – June
Corsica is still green, the beaches almost deserted, and the sea is starting to warm up. Ideal for families with nursery or primary-school children who can travel outside the school holidays. Mild temperatures, great tranquillity. The restaurant opens in mid-June.
☀️ July – August
High summer, and the liveliest atmosphere. Evenings at the bar, families getting to know each other, a buzzing pool — this is the Corsica children tell their friends about in September. Book early: these weeks go first.
🍂 September – October
Our favourite time for families. The sea is at its warmest, the beaches rediscover their serenity and prices come down. The children have the pool and activities all to themselves. The restaurant is open until mid-September.
Your dog is welcome too
In many families, the dog is part of the family. At U Casone, pets are welcome all season long — including in our accommodation. No need to find someone to look after them, or to give up on your holiday because your Labrador won’t go without you. We know how it is. And we said yes.
What families remember about their stay at U Casone
We could talk about comfort, facilities, value for money. Those things matter, and we care about them. But what comes up most often in our campers’ messages is something else. It’s the morning their 8-year-old son got up on his own to go and meet his new friends at the pétanque court. It’s the event evening when the whole family shared spit-roast veal while gazing at the stars. It’s the last day at the beach when nobody wanted to leave.
U Casone is “the big house”. And as in any big house, everyone finds their place — the children running around, the parents catching their breath, the grandparents watching and smiling.
We look forward to seeing you this summer.
